At least there were not commercials every five minutes tonight and they showed two episodes back to back.
The Mark of Nimueh was about an evil sorceress that creates an Afanc – monster created from elements – that poisons the water supply of Camelot.
Gwen (Angel Coulby) father becomes infected and
Merlin (Colin Morgan), using magic, secretly cures him. As a result of this action Gwen becomes accused of sorcery and is sentenced to death. Merlin must prove her innocence.
At one point Merlin runs into court and admits he is the one that cured Gwen's father with magic, but no one believes him. I found that scene so insincere because if he really wanted to save Gwen, why didn't he perform some magic right then and there to prove he was telling the truth? Another thing that bothered me about this episode is that there is no development or history given as to where, who are why Nimueh is bent on destroying Camelot.
In The Poisoned Chalice, Nimueh is determined to kill and poisons a chalice. It appears that she has charmed Merlin and through a Nimueh-manipulated false accusation ends up poisoning himself. It is now up to Arther to find the flower that
Gaius (Richard Wilson) will use to create an antidote. Ironically, when
Arthur (Bradley James) appears at the cave where the flower can be found, Nimueh is there and manipulates Arthur into a dangerous situation. Merlin, still on his deathbed, sends light to Arthur to complete his task, who returns in time to have the antidote created to save Merlin's life.
I am really over
King Uthur (Anthony Head). This time he has imprisoned his own son for defying his proclamation that no one is to leave Camelot. He is so rigid and stubborn. At least in this episode we are provided with a little more information regarding Nimueh, but not all. I guess I'll have to watch again next week.
